Cristiano Ronaldo has announced that he has retired from national football.

The 41-year-old said he will return the No. 7 jersey after the end of the country games this month.

Ronaldo played in 234 matches for the Portugal national team and scored 146 goals. He holds the record for the most number of national matches and by breaking the record of Ali Dei, the Iranian legend, he holds the title of most goals scored in national football in the world.

Ronaldo said in a video he released to announce his retirement: "If I made you happy even once, if one of my goals made you hug someone, forget your worries or make you proud of our country, then all these efforts were worth it."

After the last invitation to the Portugal national team, Ronaldo left the camp in an angry mood after a disagreement with Jorge Jesus, the head coach of this team.
