The US Treasury has put an Indian couple and a number of companies under their management on its sanctions list for allegedly helping Iran's shadow fleet of oil tankers and allowing them to circumvent sanctions.
This office announced on Wednesday, November 4, that Sunil Kumar Sharma and his wife, Jasprit Preeti, a resident of Chandigarh, India, were killed by creating fake entities to register ships and issue maritime certificates, allowing the operation of oil tankers carrying Iranian oil.
According to the US Treasury Department, this pair helped Iran's shadow fleet ships, including ships operating on behalf of Iran's military forces and its proxy groups, circumvent international restrictions by posing as representatives of maritime institutions of various countries, such as Guyana, Swatini and Laos.
According to this statement, in 2023 Sharma established a company in Singapore that provided ship registration services under the name Aswatini. Despite the official statement by the Aswatini authorities that it has no connection with that country, this company continued to provide registration and flagging services for oil tankers carrying Iranian oil.
