Donald Trump said Tuesday night that the war with Iran played a role in the Republicans' sweeping defeat in the midterm elections. However, he emphasized that he does not regret starting this war earlier this year.
In a telephone interview with the Wall Street Journal he said: "Iran was part of the story" in response to the question of whether the war had an effect on the poor performance of the Republicans in the election.
Donald Trump said he has no doubts about this war, which has caused the popularity of his presidency to decline.
According to the Wall Street Journal, he has been trying to end this military conflict for months and has complained to his advisers that this issue has become a constant problem.
However, Mr Trump told this newspaper: "I don't think about it. I did the right thing. If it were to happen again, I would do the same thing."
Donald Trump believes that rising oil prices, not the war itself, was the biggest political weakness.
