Qatar says it still hopes for a US-Iran deal.
Qatar says it is still "hopeful" for a US-Iran deal. Majed Ansari, spokesman for Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told reporters that "both sides are still committed to the negotiation process" and "we are facilitating the exchange of proposals between the two sides continuously and at the moment."
He added that both sides are "currently examining the plans and proposals we presented". Negotiations with Qatari mediators have been ongoing since last week, and Qatari envoys were in Tehran last night. Prior to that, negotiations were conducted in Tehran and Doha.
Pakistan and Qatar are the main mediators between Iran and America. At the same time as the mediation continued, Iranian television announced that three ships traveling in unsanctioned areas in the Strait of Hormuz were hit by mines. Iran and America have both said they have full control over the Strait of Hormuz.
