"Capitalism is a system designed by the wealthy class to exploit us all for their own benefit. We must replace it with democratic socialism; A system where ordinary people have a right to express their opinion and have a real role in decision-making in their workplaces, neighborhoods and society.
This is the claim made on its website by the organization "Democratic Socialists of America", known as "Diasai", a left-wing movement that has gained increasing importance and political infiltration since 2018 in the country considered the heart of global capitalism.
"Diasai" was formed in the 1970s from the merger of several smaller organizations with left leanings and was almost a fringe movement for a long time, until the presidential campaign of the independent candidate Bernie Sanders in 2016 changed the way many Americans see the concept of socialism.
Since then, the movement has grown in popularity. In the mid-term elections on November 3 this year, during which a third of the Senate and all the seats in the House of Representatives will be voted on, the organization "Democratic Socialists of America" hopes to become a force that can influence the decisions and directions of the Democratic Party, especially how to deal with the last two years of the presidency of Donald Trump.
