The adviser to the president of the United Arab Emirates says that the country hopes for diplomatic progress in the Iran-US conflict, but at the same time it is preparing for the worst scenario.

Anwar Gargash said at Manama's security meeting in Bahrain: "We hope that a diplomatic development will take place."

"It is not in the interest of the region to experience another round (of war)... But I think, as we have already shown, we are prepared for the worst."

On the eve of the mid-term elections in the United States, the level of tension between Tehran and Washington increased and the fear of the possibility of a new war increased. However, the diplomatic movements also gained momentum.

Qatari mediators held intensive talks with senior Iranian officials on Friday in Tehran, and those negotiations continued in Abu Dhabi on Saturday.

Marco Rubio, the US Secretary of State, said yesterday that Donald Trump has not yet decided on a possible ground attack on Iran. Meanwhile, Mujtaba Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, instructed military commanders that the response to any threat should be "immediate" and "without geographical boundaries."
