Diplomats are trying to avoid a new round of clashes after this week's US midterm elections.

According to this source, who spoke to Reuters on condition of anonymity, the negotiations took place on Saturday in the Qatari capital after more than 12 hours of talks between Iranian and Qatari representatives on Friday in Tehran.

Abbas Irakichi confirmed the presence of the Iranian delegation in Doha, but said there were no plans to meet with American officials. Marco Rubio, the Secretary of State of the United States, said today that the President of the country, Donald Trump, has not yet decided on new attacks against Iran, but prefers to resolve the conflict through diplomacy.

America is on the brink of midterm elections that will determine whether the Republican Party retains its slim majority in both houses of Congress. Mr Trump said he would refrain from a ground attack on Iran until before the election.

Iran has announced many times that in the event of a ground attack again, it will target American targets and Israeli prisoners in neighboring countries.
