Sudden floods and heavy rains in northern and eastern Syria claimed the lives of 5 people, including 4 children.
The country's Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management announced in a statement that four children and one person died as a result of drowning in Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor districts.
Sanaa, Syria's official news agency, reported that heavy rains and subsequent flooding caused the destruction of the Baraka Bridge and the blocking of the communication road from this area to the neighboring province of Aleppo.
According to a statement from this ministry, five other people are also missing during the storms that have hit the country since Wednesday.
Various areas in the north and east of Syria witnessed heavy rains and strong winds, which led to the flooding of houses, the displacement of residents and the blocking of roads.
Experts believe that although climate change has led to a general decrease in rainfall in Syria, it has made the remaining showers more intense, scattered and unpredictable.
