Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has supported the United Arab Emirates' claim to three islands in the Persian Gulf.

This support coincided with the visit of Sheikh Khalid bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi to Canada.

Following this meeting, the two sides issued a joint statement on October 28, emphasizing the cooperation between Canada and the United Arab Emirates in various fields.

The last paragraph of this joint statement deals with the UAE's claim of ownership of the Big Tunb, Small Tunb and Abu Musa islands and calls for an end to the "occupation" of these islands by Iran.

The message reads: "The two countries demand that Israel cease the three islands of Tonab, the big and the small, and Abu Musa, and see this as a violation of the national sovereignty of the United Arab Emirates and the United Nations Charter."

Iran considers the three islands of the Persian Gulf an integral part of its territory, which was under British occupation.
