Turkey and Egypt are on the verge of a new agreement on maritime borders.
Turkey declared its willingness to sign an agreement with Egypt regarding the establishment of maritime borders.
Yesterday, Turkey's Ministry of Defense announced that the country is ready to sign an agreement with Egypt "to determine the boundaries of the maritime borders" based on mutual interests.
A statement from this ministry states that this possible agreement could add more than 15,000 square kilometers to the waters controlled by Egypt.
Turkey's Ministry of Defense also emphasized that this country will continue to protect its rights and legitimate interests in the Eastern Mediterranean within the framework of international law, while contributing to regional peace, security and stability.
The ministry also announced a joint naval exercise with Egypt called "Friendship Sea 2026", which is scheduled to be held between November 4 and 9 in Alexandria, Egypt, with the participation of units and personnel of the Turkish and Egyptian navies. In the meantime, yesterday Issar Güler, the Minister of Defense of Turkey, warned Russia and Ukraine against further attacks on commercial ships in the Black Sea and said that Ankara reserves the right to take legal action against these attacks.
Turkey has had good relations with both countries since Russia's 2022 ground attack on Ukraine and has repeatedly demanded both sides stop attacks on ships in the Black Sea.
Before that there were reports of a ground attack on commercial ships belonging to Turkey.
