Which party is leading?

The most recent data from Israel's Central Election Commission shows that with more than half of the votes counted, there is still a close contest between Benjamin Netanyahu and Gadi Eisenkot.

The Israeli captive news channels "Kaan", "Channel 12" and "Channel 13" predicted in the news estimates that Netanyahu would win 55 mandates and Eisenkot 49 mandates.

The winner of the election needs at least 61 seats in the Knesset, Israel's captive parliament, to form a majority government. These results are not final and may change. Turnout in Tuesday's election was the highest in decades.

According to data from Israel's Central Election Commission, when voting ended at 22:00 local time (20:00 GMT), the participation rate reached 77.7%, which was the highest rate since 1999.
