After seven years, the approval of the agreement on the delimitation of maritime jurisdictions, signed between Turkey and Libya in 2019, created a new equation in the current negotiations in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Ankara sees the approval of this agreement as a factor that strengthens Turkey's legal position vis-à-vis Greece in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Greece is expected to take new steps after Libya's latest decision, especially in the area of registration of the continental shelf of the island of Crete and drilling activities in the area.

Recent developments in relations between Turkey and Libya, in addition to Greece, are being closely watched, especially by the Republic of Cyprus and Egypt.
