By being named the best footballer in the world at a ceremony in London, Harry Kane became the first English player to win the Ballon d'Or since Michael Owen in 2001.
The 33-year-old Bayern Munich striker is the fifth Englishman to win this award. Before him, Stanley Matthews won this title in 1956, Bobby Charlton in 1966 and Kevin Keegan in 1978 and 1979.
Denis Love from Scotland in 1964 and George Best from Northern Ireland in 1968 are other winners of this award from Great Britain.
In second place came Kylian Mbappe, striker of Real Madrid and the French national team, and Lamin Yamal, striker of Barcelona and the Spanish national team, won third place.
Kane said in an interview with the "Dizen" network: "Many people did not imagine that I would reach such a position; maybe I didn't even think that I would progress so far."
