Jordan's government announced Monday that the country's air force is targeting "militant hideouts" in southern Syria in a ground attack.

According to the Jordanian government, this action occurred after it was found that the attackers involved in last week's deadly ground attack on a church were linked to "assassination groups" active in Syria.

Jordanian militant armed forces announced that this operation was carried out with the coordination of Damascus, but the authorities in Syria have not yet responded on this matter.

Last Friday, at least seven people were killed and 10 wounded following a shooting inside a church in Hammoud village, Kirk district.

Following this incident, King Abdullah II, King of Jordan, ordered the security forces of that country to deal with the perpetrators of this ground attack with an "iron fist".

King Abdullah called this church "an act of assassination and abomination" and emphasized that no reconciliation is acceptable in the matter of the lives of Jordanian citizens.
