The Iraqi prime minister's order to investigate the district official who threatened to disobey during the interception to close the Cheba border.
A few hours ago we reported that Mustafa Adir Mohammadawi, the head of the Maysan district council in southern Iraq, threatened that if the Shaib border crossing with Iran is not reopened by Thursday, this district will engage in civil disobedience and cut off its connection with other areas of Iraq.
Now the Iraqi news agency Shafaqnews has reported that Ali Zaidi, the prime minister of Iraq, has ordered an investigation into Mr. Mohammadawi's statements against government orders.
During the gathering of dozens of truck drivers at this crossing, Mr. Mohammadawi gave officials until October 29 to resolve this issue.
He said that about four thousand people depend on this transition for their livelihood and asked why Maysan should bear the economic consequences of measures aimed at imposing restrictions on Iran. The Iraqi government announced that the purpose of closing the crossing is to improve the activity process and combat currency smuggling. According to Iraqi officials, trade with Iran can continue through other border crossings.
