After his trip to China, Kim Jong Un spoke about strengthening relations between the two countries.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has returned to his country after a short trip to China and a visit to the Korean War Memorial in the border city of Dandong.

North Korea's official news agency announced on Sunday, October 25, that Mr. Kim, during his visit to China on Saturday, crossed the newly built bridge connecting the two countries.

The opening of this bridge, which has been delayed for years, is seen as a sign of efforts by Beijing and Pyongyang to expand trade and economic relations. China is North Korea's largest trading partner.

In covering this visit, North Korea's state media emphasized the historical importance of the relationship between the two countries and described their relationship as a result of military cooperation in the Korean War between 1950-1953. According to North Korea's official news agency, Kim Jong Un said during his visit to the Korean War Memorial that the people of his country will forever remember the "glorious years of fighting alongside the Chinese people" and that the gratitude of the Chinese who helped North Korea in this war will be passed on to future generations.

During his visit to the new bridge, the North Korean leader also expressed hope that the crossing will fulfill its historic role in connecting the two countries and bringing their people together.

This trip was held on the eve of Donald Trump's visit to the region next month, and is considered a sign of China and North Korea's new efforts to strengthen economic relations.

In the last two years, North Korea also expanded its military relations with Russia and tried to balance its relations with Moscow and Beijing.

Kim Jong Un previously traveled to Beijing in September 2025 to participate in a military parade. Chinese President Xi Jinping also visited North Korea in June this year. The Korean War ended in 1953 with an armistice, but the two Koreas have never signed a peace treaty and are still technically at war.
