Storm Austen on October 23, 2026 (October 23) knocked out power to more than 10,000 homes in the UK and disrupted transport in that country.
The storm produced gusts of up to 84 miles per hour (135 km/h) on the island of Jersey (northern France). In southern England, severe weather conditions caused disruption to transport and fallen trees blocked railway lines and roads.
In the city of Brighton, part of the historic and iconic West Pier, which is an abandoned musical instrument from 1866, has collapsed into the sea.
Some sailings between Great Britain and France have been canceled and the "National Rail" company has also announced that many British train lines are operating at a lower speed than usual.
The UK will continue to be affected by strong winds and heavy rain in the coming days, with Storm Buelo expected to enter the region soon after Storm Austen.
