The families of the political prisoners who were executed in the summer of 1367, who went to the Khavaran cemetery to honor their memory, were forbidden to enter this place. In the published video, the families gather behind the closed doors of this cemetery and hold a ceremony to commemorate them by singing together and placing flowers in front of the pictures of some of the executed.
During the executions of the summer of 1967, thousands of political prisoners were executed and secretly buried in mass graves on the "order" of Ayatollah Khomeini.
Referring to the available lists, Human Rights Watch estimated that between 2,800 and 5,000 political prisoners were executed "in at least 32 cities" in two stages: "First, members of the Popular Mujahideen Organization and then leftist and non-religious groups and parties." This organization considers the "violation of fundamental rights" and the failure to maintain a "just judicial process" to be equivalent to "extrajudicial murder" and the "widespread and systematic" of these executions "are included in the definition of crimes against humanity."
The cemetery of Khavaran has been the burial place of political rivals since 1360. From 1367 onwards, the families of the executed gather in this place on various occasions.
