Coalition led by Saudi Arabia: We intercepted and destroyed a drone in the east of this country.
The Saudi-led military coalition fighting the Houthis in Yemen announced on Saturday that it had intercepted and destroyed a drone in the east of the country.
Turki al-Maliki, the spokesman for this coalition, wrote on Channel X: "A drone was intercepted and destroyed in the eastern region."
This news comes as Saudi Arabia has been the target of repeated attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis this month. Among these attacks was the ground attack on Riyadh International Airport, which was described as the deadliest ground attack on Saudi Arabia in recent years.
The Houthis have repeatedly rejected Saudi's accusation of firing missiles and drones at this country.
The group has been at war since 2014 with the internationally recognized government of Yemen, which is supported by the Saudi-led coalition. After four years of a fragile ceasefire, the clashes resumed in July, a few months after the start of the war between the US and Iran, which plunged the region into a wider crisis.
The war in Yemen left hundreds of thousands dead in one of the poorest countries in the world and created a massive humanitarian crisis.
