The Oct. 23 memo, obtained by Axios, was written by Jay Clayton, director of national intelligence, to Marco Rubio. This document warns that information related to Iran's alleged programs should be made available to a greater number of US government employees; including individuals who may be at risk but do not currently have access to this classified information.

The one-page memo does not name the people threatened, specific countries outside the Middle East, or details about the alleged plans. According to Axios, American officials say that this information was one of the reasons for the Foreign Ministry's decision to reduce the number of American embassies in several countries in the Middle East.
