The White House announced that Melania Trump, the first lady of the United States, mediated the establishment of a temporary ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine in the war-torn city of Olsheki.
This city is located in the Kherson region in southern Ukraine and has been under the occupation of Russian forces since 2022. The human condition in this city was reported to be very critical and some residents resorted to eating weeds in the garden to survive.
According to the White House, the ceasefire should begin on Thursday, October 29, to allow humanitarian aid to be sent and the evacuation of civilians, especially the elderly.
Melania Trump said: "The situation in Olsheki is critical. "This city is on the front line of the war and is on the brink of disaster."
Russia and Ukraine approved the agreement on the local ceasefire.
Melania Trump began independent diplomatic activity regarding the war in Ukraine since October 2025. Her office says the US first lady has helped reunite more than 30 children who were separated from their families during the war.
