Britain unveils new plans to protect vital undersea cables and pipelines.

The UK government is introducing new plans to protect vital submarine cables and pipelines from what it calls serious threats.

The UK government says there has been an increase in suspicious activity around the UK coastline, including "by Russia".

Almost all of Britain's internet and around three-quarters of its gas is delivered via cables and pipes that lie on the seabed.

The government says it wants to introduce laws that include more prison terms, unlimited fines and new powers to target any foreign person or country that maliciously damages underwater infrastructure.
