Russia and Ukraine counterattack despite Trump's diplomatic efforts.

Two people were killed and more than 30 people were injured in last night's Russian attacks on Kyiv.

During these attacks, houses, electrical installations, shops and a medical center were targeted.

The attacks came hours after Russia announced it was ready to resume peace talks "in principle" and US President Donald Trump said the end of the war may be closer than ever.

Seven more people were killed in attacks in other regions of Ukraine, including Sumy, Kharkiv, Donetsk and Zaporizhia.

Meanwhile, Russian authorities announced that they had shot down hundreds of Ukrainian drones.

These attacks were carried out despite new US diplomatic efforts.

Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Wednesday.

Donald Trump has already lifted some US sanctions against Russia.
