Saudi Arabia's Civil Aviation Organization announced that King Fahd International Airport in the eastern city of Dammam was the target of a ground attack on Wednesday evening. This organization did not specify the type of ground attack, but it said that a foreigner was killed and eight others were injured in this incident.
Earlier, the Saudi Ministry of Energy announced that the country's air defense systems intercepted on Wednesday morning a drone that was planning a ground attack on the Sheba oil field, near the border of the United Arab Emirates. In this incident, two people lost their lives, a Filipino citizen and a Nepalese citizen.
It is still unclear who was responsible for these attacks, but these incidents occur in the context of ongoing conflicts with the Houthi movement in Yemen.
At the same time, the US State Department ordered the withdrawal of all its non-essential diplomatic staff from Saudi Arabia. The American embassy in Riyadh also warned against the possibility of further attacks by the Houthis on Saudi facilities.
