The leader of Israel's captive opposition accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday of dangerously politicizing the country's security ahead of the election.

This issue was raised after Benjamin Netanyahu repeatedly issued threats against Iran in recent days.

Yair Lapid, former Prime Minister of Israel and leader of the main opposition movement in the Israeli Parliament, who is one of the candidates for next Tuesday's elections, said: "I am really shocked to hear that Netanyahu is raising security threats against Bimblati."

He added: "Netanyahu turned the security of the Israeli prisoners into a ridiculous election show while this man is responsible for the longest chain of security failures in the history of the Israeli prisoners."

According to the AFP news agency, Benjamin Netanyahu, who holds the record for the longest tenure as prime minister in Israel, focused on the last days of the election campaign with aggressive and belligerent statements in the field of national security. 📷JACK GUEZ / AFP via Getty Images.
