Meta, the parent company and owner of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, is facing the largest fine in its history for its business practices.

A New Mexico judge on Wednesday ordered Meta to pay $25 billion in fines after a two-week trial earlier this year. In the same court it was found that the company told "lies" to the public about how it manages the information of Facebook users over the years.

In this case, the judge said: "These lies go beyond Facebook's user information management practices" and added that these actions "are related to the core of Facebook's core business practices."

Saiji Mahoney, Meta's senior attorney, said the ruling effectively "makes it almost impossible to do business in the state of New Mexico." He added that this company was planning to intercept and predicted that it would succeed in this interception.

This is the largest fine ever issued against Meta.
