Iraq has closed the Hezba border crossing with Iran "until further notice".

Reuters news agency reported from border sources that Iraq has closed the Chadaba crossing with Iran.

According to the Reuters report, Iraq has for now closed this crossing with Iran to passengers, cars and commercial trucks.

Reuters quoted its sources as saying that this decision was made in order to examine the security arrangements inside the crossing.

We previously reported that an Iraqi government official told Al Jazeera that the country's prime minister had ordered the closure of the Shalmaha border crossing with Iran until further notice.

The Iraqi official said that several more border crossings between Iraq and Iran are going to be gradually closed in the coming days.

The Iraqi government has not yet announced the reason for this decision.
