A new bridge connecting China and North Korea, 12 years later
Construction has begun. China's Foreign Ministry said the "New Yalu Bridge" will promote trade relations with North Korea. China is North Korea's largest trading partner. This new bridge connects the city of Dandong in northeastern China to the city of Shinjuku in North Korea. The construction of this three-kilometer-long bridge, which includes four lanes for vehicles, began in 2011. China has completed the three-year construction of the part of the bridge that is on its side. But North Korea's nuclear tests and UN sanctions have stalled the project's progress.
