Rescue forces and the Nepalese army said they rescued 95 people, including 9 foreigners, after the terrible flood in that country. Government officials in Nepal said flooding of a major river in the country has led to the destruction of homes and bridges and damage to part of a hydroelectric power plant. According to reports, within a few hours the water level of the river rose from two meters to close to 8.5 meters at one point. Five people have so far been confirmed missing. The Nepal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Organization says more than 200 houses have been damaged and more than 650 people have been affected by this flood. The state army announced that it had sent four helicopters to the affected areas for search and rescue operations. The cause of the latest flood is still unknown. Some experts say the slide may have blocked the river or one of its tributaries for a time and caused the sudden release of the accumulated water, while others say residents upriver witnessed an avalanche of ice.
