The official news agency of Saudi Arabia reported that the foreign minister of that country spoke with his Iranian counterpart about the recent escalation of tensions in the region and the efforts to reduce tensions.

This is the first reported contact between the foreign ministers of the two countries since the escalation of attacks by the Iran-backed Houthis on Saudi Arabia.
