The Public Relations of the Revolutionary Guards Navy announced that a supertanker transporting crude oil collided with a naval mine in the south of the Strait of Hormuz this evening (Sunday, 11/19/11), and as a result of this incident, "the engine room of the ship exploded and caught fire." According to this announcement, this oil tanker "turned off its navigation systems and crossed an unauthorized route" while trying to exit the Strait of Hormuz. In another part of this message, the Revolutionary Guards warned that ships in the Strait of Hormuz that turn off their navigation and identification systems will be identified as "hostile" vessels and will be dealt with "severely and decisively." In this message there is no information about the identity of this tanker. Iran says the ships should pass through the Strait of Hormuz on a route determined by that country.
