Pope Leo XIV announced that he will undergo surgery "in the coming days" after a lump in his nose was discovered during a medical examination.

"The doctors found in my lung a lump that is in the early stages and has a limited and clear border and has not penetrated the surrounding tissues," Pope Leo told the public during the weekly Sunday prayer in St. Peter's Square in Rome.

The 71-year-old Catholic Church leader said that members of his medical team "believed that the medical procedure was the right thing to do" and that he agreed to the procedure.
