🔻 Gideon Price rejected the charge of sabotage in captivity during the holding of the elections for the Palestinian Legislative Assembly
Gideon Shir, Israel's foreign minister, says that this country is not responsible for the one-year delay in holding the elections for the Palestinian Legislative Assembly. The elections that Abu Mazen, the head of the Palestinian Authority, previously announced to be postponed, and the reason for this decision was sabotage in captivity.
In a message on the social network X, Mr. Sahrar wrote: "Mahmoud Abbas, the corrupt Palestinian dictator who has not held elections for more than 20 years, has once again deceived the international community."
He added: "His attempt to drag the Eyal captives into this issue and the false claim about the creation of obstacles by the Eyal captives to hold elections is another ridiculous lie put forth in order to evade responsibility and accountability."
Mahmoud Abbas postponed the elections to the Legislative Assembly from November 28 (Azar 7) to September 11, 2027 (20 Besharib 1406). The official Wafa news agency reported that Mr. Abbas's decision to postpone the parliamentary elections and set a new date for the presidential elections was made "in the shadow of the military attacks on prisoners and the expansion of settlements."
In the statement of Mr. Abbas, the restrictions on the release of movement, security, economic and administrative challenges to the preparation and holding of elections are among the reasons for this decision.
The last elections for the Palestinian Legislative Assembly were held in 2006, which resulted in the victory of Hamas. This controversial election caused a deep rift between Fatah and Hamas.
