Tens of thousands of security forces were deployed in Delhi, the capital of India, on October 10 (October 18) blocking roads with roadblocks to prevent the latest demonstrations by the "Cockroach People's Party".

Members of that party said Abhijit Deepka, their leader, was among hundreds of people arrested since Friday evening (October 17). Deepika, who has said she is ready to go to jail, started the movement in May in a "joking" response to comments by Supreme Court Chief Justice Suriya Kant. Surya Kant compared the unemployed youth to "cockroaches".

This movement gradually rose and spread by addressing public dissatisfaction with unemployment, leaking university exam questions, and government irresponsibility.

Protesters at today's demonstration are demanding electoral reforms and the resignation of Election Commission of India chief Gyanesh Kumar, accusing him of "manipulating voter rolls". The movement's last major interception in July led to violent clashes with police and forced India's education minister to resign.
