The recent visit of captive Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to Abu Dhabi reinforced some of Tehran's deepest suspicions of the United Arab Emirates. Iranian authorities and radical media outlets described this meeting as the latest sign of expanding security cooperation between the captives of Israel and the United Arab Emirates against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
These concerns, as well as seeing the UAE as a security threat, increased after the last war; A war during which Iran repeatedly focused on the interests of the United States, based in the United Arab Emirates, as well as on the country's energy infrastructure.
However, the tensions go beyond the recent war. The United Arab Emirates' relations with the captives of Israel, the geographical proximity of this country to Iran and the strategic Strait of Hormuz, the long-standing dispute over the three Persian Gulf islands, and at the same time the extensive economic ties between Iran and the United Arab Emirates have created complex relations in which deep mistrust is mixed with economic interdependence.
