Adidas has sued an Australian fashion brand for selling and advertising clothing with a four-stripe design, claiming the design is "deceptively similar" to the German company's distinctive trademark.

Adidas claims that White Fox takes advantage of the company's reputation and creates associations in the minds of consumers. During a brief hearing in Sydney, Whitefox argued that the design was used for decoration, not as a trademark.

The case is expected to return to court later this year.

Two years ago, Adidas lost a case in New York when it claimed that the four-stripe design used by luxury brand Tom Brown was too similar to its design.
