Mrs. Carson, 76, is known for her works that blur the lines between poetry, fiction and academic studies.

The Nobel Committee announced that Ann Carson was chosen as the winner "for her bold and creative collection of works, which, in a funny and lively dialogue with the classical tradition, created new formats for contemporary literature."

The Nobel Prize is awarded in honor of the collection of works and achievements of a professional life and is considered the most prestigious award in the field of world literature.

The winner of this prize will receive 12 million Swedish kronor, equivalent to approximately one million dollars and 200 thousand dollars.

Ms. Carson has also translated works of ancient Greek literature and taught as a professor of classical literature for over 30 years.
