Merrickman Abscal, the 87-year-old Spaniard whose forced eviction from her home led to widespread protests over the housing crisis and the announcement of early elections in the country, has died.

Ms. Abscale was evacuated on a stretcher from the home she had lived in for over 70 years on September 23rd due to inability to pay the rent.

Reacting to the news of her death, the Madrid Tenants Association said that the case of Merrickman Abscale is "a turning point in the history of this country".

Ms. Abascal's story became a symbol of the housing crisis in Spain and led to widespread interceptions in various cities in that country. Last week, tens of thousands of people took to the streets to protest the increase in rents and the lack of affordable housing.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's government has tried to tackle the housing crisis by passing emergency measures, but two government proposals were rejected in parliament last week. Mr Sánchez announced on Monday that Spain's early elections would be held on November 29.
