🔸 Lionel Messi, the Argentine soccer star, will play today for the last time in his country's national team shirt.

In his last appearance in his country's uniform, he will face the Benin national team tonight in a friendly match in Buenos Aires.

Messi has 208 national matches and is the Argentine football record.

Lionel Messi, who along with Maradona has always been called "Argentina's best player", announced last week his retirement from the national team. That retirement came just two months after losing to Spain in the 2026 World Cup final.

After this defeat he said that "he has nothing more to add to the team" and he will retire from the national games.

However, Lionel Scaloni, the head coach of the Argentina national team, said that if Messi wants to continue playing for the national team, "there will be no problem to change the decision".
