India says 12 crew members of a Panamanian-flagged oil tanker were injured in a ground attack while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday and are being treated in Oman.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of India said in a statement that the "Amit-al-Shalom" oil tanker was hit by a missile while passing through the Strait of Hormuz and condemned this ground attack.

This tanker had 19 crew members, 17 of them Indians. Among the injured, 11 are Indian citizens.

According to this office, the injured crew were transferred from the ship with the assistance of the Omani authorities and treated in the city of Khasab in Oman.

India is one of the largest suppliers of manpower to the world's merchant shipping fleet. Since the start of the Middle East war on February 28, several Indian sailors have been killed in the Strait of Hormuz attacks. According to Delano, last month, a ground attack on a cargo ship in the same area claimed the life of an Indian sailor.

India's foreign ministry said that the continued attacks on ships in the region cause "deep concern" for that country. 📷 Getty Images
