The trial of three Iranians in Britain on charges of spying on journalists critical of the government
On Tuesday, British judicial authorities told jurors in a London court that three Iranian men, on behalf of Iran's foreign intelligence service, spied on journalists criticizing the Iranian government in Britain in order to "respond" to their criticism of the Iranian government.
These three people are accused of gathering information from journalists and opponents of the Iranian government in the UK.
At yesterday's court session, three defendants were present behind the glass in the court and their lawyers were also present. According to the documents presented by the court, the three men admitted to gathering information about the people who were targets of Iran's security institutions.
Two of the accused said that they are not aware for what purpose this information was collected. But the third person said that under pressure and threats from Iran's security institutions, he cooperated with two people inside Iran and was in contact with Iran's intelligence apparatus.
