Citing the increase in missile and drone threats and the experience of war in Ukraine and the Middle East, Britain's Conservative Party has promised to invest £10 billion in building defense systems known as the British Shield if it wins the next general election. Kumi Badanuk, the leader of this party, says that the consequences of the Iran war on the countries of the Persian Gulf also played a role in the formulation of this plan.
The party says that the program known as "The British Shield" will be an integrated network of radars, command and control systems and interceptor missiles that will protect critical infrastructure, military bases and territories under British rule against advanced threats.
Shadow government defense secretary James Cartledge is set to describe the plan as "the most significant upgrade to Britain's air defenses in generations" in his speech to the Conservatives' annual meeting on Tuesday.
