Caleb Flynn, one of the famous faces of the talent show "American Idol", in which he participated and became a face about 13 years ago, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the crime of murdering his wife.

The jury rejected his claim that someone had entered the house and shot his wife while she slept.

Prosecutors said Mr. Flynn killed his wife of 37 years, a teacher, in February and then staged the house to make it look like someone had entered it through the garage door.

His messages to his ex-lover were also shown in court, including messages in which he discussed ways to kill his wife and escape punishment.

Mr. Flynn said in the television interview of the program "American Idol" - about 13 years ago - that he receives inspiration to sing from "God" and that his wife, who he says is "the most beautiful woman on earth", is the greatest gift he has. Mr. Flynn, who describes himself as a missionary for the church, wept profusely when he saw his daughters' letter, but in his statements, he again denied killing his wife.

The judge considered him a "serious threat to public safety".
