About 150 anti-immigrant protesters gathered in a town on Britain's south coast to prevent a group of asylum seekers from entering the English Channel in a small boat.

The boat, owned by a rescue charity, brought the migrants to shore.

During the confrontation at the port of Gasport, which lasted until the early hours of Monday morning, the police had to intervene on several occasions and lit several beacons. Also, 12 people were arrested in connection with the incident.

The British Home Office announced that 149 migrants were rescued in a rescue operation in the middle of the English Channel by the British National and Royal Lifeboat Institute and a French ship.

The asylum seekers were then taken by bus to an administrative center for registration in the Kent region of southeast England. The simultaneous arrival of this number of refugees is the second largest number recorded on this part of the UK's south coast in recent years.

The police were stationed on Gasport City Street and drew up a security framework. The general atmosphere of the protestors' gathering was calm most of the time.
