Zelensky: Putin seeks to weaken the Ukrainian resistance by increasing airstrikes

Ukraine's president says that Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, is trying to weaken that country's resistance by increasing airstrikes on Kiev, the capital, and other Ukrainian cities.

Volodymyr Zelensky, along with German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz, who visited Ukraine, said he was appalled by the "strong desire for continued escalation" of the conflict.

He spoke these words hours after Kyiv's North Bridge was targeted by a ground attack for the second day in a row.

Earlier, Mr. Mertes announced the allocation of more than $1 billion in military aid to Ukraine, in addition to an energy support package.
