The Japanese police claim to have arrested a US Marine named Devin Jacob Ballard on suspicion of murdering a Japanese woman named Annie Yagi.

The Japanese police claim to have arrested a US Marine named Devin Jacob Ballard on suspicion of murdering a Japanese woman named Annie Yagi.

Police said Mr. Ballard is 20 years old and was stationed on the southern Japanese island of Okinawa.

He is also accused of robbing 39-year-old Ms. Yagi from a hotel in Naha, the capital of Okinawa Prefecture.

This US Marine reportedly denied the allegations.

A series of crimes committed by American personnel in Okinawa, including rape, assault, hit-and-run accidents and drunken driving, have long prompted interceptions in that area.

Most of the 54,000 US troops stationed in Japan are stationed on this island.
