Lawyers for the woman sentenced to death in America demanded her sentence be reduced

The lawyers of Christa Pike, a death row inmate in the US state of Tennessee, are asking the state's governor to commute her death sentence. This request was submitted after she survived two attempts to carry out the sentence by lethal injection.

Christa Pike, who was convicted of murder thirty years ago, was taken to the hospital with an injection after failing to meet the requirements; her physical condition is unknown.

Ms. Pike's lawyers say they do not know the extent of possible damage to her brain because her medical information is confidential.

One of her lawyers told the BBC that 50-year-old Ms. Pike was in critical condition at the hospital after being injected with two syringes containing the drug "pentobarbital" on Wednesday.

In 1996, she was sentenced to death for the murder of 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.
