Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi responded to a statement by British Prime Minister Andy Burnham regarding Iran's involvement in the Fairford incident, writing on X: "Prime Minister Burnham said that the British government can confirm it believes Iran was involved in the incident at the Royal Air Force base in Fairford."
Mr. Araghchi also wrote: "I can also confirm that from Iran's perspective, the release of people said to be assassins associated with foreign governments speaks for itself. You are looking for the culprit in the wrong place."
Mr. Burnham said on Wednesday, a day after British police confirmed that apart from a little gasoline, no explosives were found in three vans near the Fairford Air Force Base: "There are strong indications that Iran was involved in what happened at the Royal Air Force base in Fairford over the weekend; of course, a complex and serious police investigation is still underway, and we are cooperating closely with the United States of America." The five people who were arrested and released on bail are British, living in London, and between 23 and 25 years old.
