Residents of the Kurdistan Region in Iraq fear that the war will once again spread to the border areas

In a report from Panjwin, a border city in the Kurdistan region of Iraq near Iran, AFP wrote that some residents of this region are worried that the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East will once again turn the border cities into battlefields.

Ahmed Faraj, one of the residents of Punjab, who saw as a child the destruction of this city in the Iran-Iraq war, expressed his concern about the renewal of conflicts and told the French news agency: "In war, there are no more borders."

During the last few months, drones and missiles have been seen over Panjavin; at the same time as the war between Iran and the USA and the increase in attacks by Iran and its allies, Iraqi armed groups are armed in the bases where the American forces are stationed, as well as Iranian Kurdish opposition groups.

Agence France-Presse writes that although the intensity of violence has decreased compared to the beginning of the conflict, the fear continues in the border areas. Mr. Faraj, 57, said he still vividly remembers the destruction of Panjewin in the Iran-Iraq war. According to him, in 1981, Iran's ground attack on this city left "dozens of civilian victims" and after the city was emptied, the Iraqi government destroyed Panjavin using explosives and bulldozers so that Iranian forces could not be deployed there.
