Mr. Shakerchi also called the Islamic Republic of Iran a "world power" and said that Tehran would not allow America to return to its previous position in the "new world order."

On the other hand, American officials say that Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz. Axios reported that American negotiators conveyed the same position to the Iranian side in indirect talks this week, saying that Tehran cannot set conditions regarding this waterway.

Donald Trump also said America controls the Strait and rejected Iran's offer to open it quickly.
